Founded by Fatoumata Diallo in Bamako, SiraSoba addresses two major problems: the proliferation of urban plastic waste and the rapid deterioration of unpaved roads. The process is based on a patented formula that combines low-temperature-melted plastic with sand from the Malian desert.
The resulting product is a composite paving stone that is lighter and more cost-effective than traditional concrete, and completely waterproof. SiraSoba bricks fit together easily without mortar, allowing local communities to pave their own streets. In addition, the supply chain relies on a network of women’s waste-collecting cooperatives, creating hundreds of direct, green jobs.
